With the endless coming and going of gastronomical ideas, it’s sometimes easy to lose the oversight of Hamburg’s food scene.

But then this came into our hands: Game Burger and Gin & Tonic? Hell yeah, that’s our thing! So we trotted over to take a few pictures, get to know the guys, and see what they have to offer. And you know what? We weren’t disappointed!



WHO ARE THEY?

Johann-Philipp Jencquel, Sebastian Kaempfert, and Maximilian Schippmann share a passion for cooking and hunting, and all since childhood.

“We want to make game a tasty product for people all year round. At the moment, game only has a seasonal place on the menu, something that we want to rectify with our game burgers. Sebastian and I (Johann) grew up in the country, with a passion for nature and hunting. In today's era of factory farming, being able to eat a piece of meat from an animal that actually lived in the wild is a luxury. It can't be any more organic than that. Ironically, you can’t certify it as organic. Well, organic isn’t always organic anyway. With a small group of suppliers, we have been able to get great local ingredients for our products that underline our philosophy.

The meat from red deer, fallow deer, roe deer and wild boar is rich in vitamins and minerals and is characterized by its low fat content. We the founders are very much concerned about choosing first-class local ingredients for our products. Our meats come from the forests and fields of Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg and Brandenburg. The potatoes for our organic chips come from a farm in Lower Saxony. Our buns are locally made by ‘Traditionsbäckerei Springer Bio-Backwerk Hamburg’. Together with our supplier we have devised our own recipe for the burger buns, which are hand-baked every day. Even the salads are served with hand-made crispy bread.”

6 different types of burgers are offered at the shop, plus a vegetarian option and a game currywurst. Could you tell us your favourites? “Yes! Maximilian: CHAMPION, Johann: GREEN FLAVOUR, Sebastian: EDELSATT”.

Naturally we tried all those options but couldn’t decide on our favourite, they were all too delicious. After all that food we needed a digestif and treated ourselves to gin & tonic. You can choose from 5 prestigious brands, which are served with Fever Tree Tonic and fitting decoration.

Not around the Mühlendamm that often? No problem! Along with their daily business the guys offer private catering (Christmas parties, birthdays, summer festivals and much more). You can also find them at large events like the Hamburg Jump and Dressage Derby and the Alstervergnügen. So, to put it plainly: Fantastic! Go and try it out - you won’t regret it.
